About The Penistone Cinema Organ Trust
The Penistone Cinema Organ Trust was formed by Kevin Grunill to install the former Paramount, Birmingham Compton organ in the Penistone Paramount Theatre near Barnsley, which opened in April 2000.
This not-for-profit volunteer group have done a great deal over the past 25 years to promote and preserve the Cinema Organ. Trust volunteers have worked on the restoration and maintenance of a number of instruments including:
- the return to playing condition of the Wurlitzer organ in the Opera House, Blackpool (now maintained by the Cannock Chase Organ Club),
- the removal, restoration and installation of the two 3/8 Granada Wurlitzer Organs at the Scarborough Fair Collection,
- together with help and advice to other similar groups.
Penistone Cinema Organ Trust have also gained a good reputation for the manufacture and restoration of many original Cinema Organ parts.
The Penistone Cinema Organ Trust is solely operated and administered by volunteers, many of whom had little or no experience with the Cinema Organ before their involvement, but who have since learnt how to restore these wonderful musical marvels, utilising their own skill sets and acquiring new skills in the process. The Penistone Cinema Organ Trust actively encourage all volunteers and offers a safe, friendly environment, not to mention enjoying good social interaction in the process.
